You may be a professional athlete; you may be a weekend athlete.
You may be running your thousandth mile or your first. Either way, Mercyhealth Orthopedic Center of Excellence specialists want to put you back in the game if a sports injury sidelines you.
We treat both acute and chronic injuries that befall athlete patients. A broken bone or sprained joint – an acute injury – will send you to our door immediately, but many patients try to play through chronic pain with less severe injuries when they should see an orthopedic center of excellence specialist to stop further injury.
You can prevent sports injuries by stretching properly, knowing your body’s limits and not trying to do a week’s worth of working out in one day. Ask an expert for help when attempting a new sport or exercise.
However, if you are regularly experiencing aching, swelling and/or pain when you exercise or when you rest, you should visit Mercyhealth’s Sports Medicine department.
